'Gerak Khas', Malaysia's Longest-Running Series, Finally Ends After 20 Seasons

Gerak, gerak, gerak khas!

That iconic intro tune - although modified and changed now - will always be remembered by many Malaysians.

Sadly, 'Gerak Khas', the longest-running drama series in the country, aired its final episode on TV3 on 27 March.

The brainchild of Datuk Yusof Haslam, the series follows the local special forces as they they deal with all sorts of criminal cases including murders, bank robberies, loan sharks, kidnappings, drug trafficking, money laundering and many more.

"I didn't intend for the show to go on for so long actually," says Yusof, who has been playing the unit's head Datuk Helmi since its inception, in an interview with Berita Harian.

"I don't actually make that decision. The TV stations kept asking for it due to strong ratings. Seasons after seasons, I thought the show would end. And now it finally has."

Some of the main actors from the series include A Galak, Datuk AC Mizal, Zul Ariffin, Fattah Amin, Norman Hakim, Abby Abadi, Rozita Che Wan and Erra Fazira.

Fans bid goodbye

The series has a large following and many took to social media to bid their goodbyes to the show.

Spanning over 20 seasons with 1,054 episodes, the series which also resulted in three movies will definitely be missed.

We've embedded the original theme track below in case you want to listen and reminisce.
