If there’s one thing we’ve learned in the past year, it is that anyone can become the President of the United States.
This could be proven true once again because Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has officially been filed for the 2020 Presidential Campaign with the Federal Election Commission (FEC)
The WWE champion turned actor is now one step closer to stepping into the Oval Office and could actually be taking on President Donald Trump to take control of the White House!
A campaign committee titled “Run the Rock 2020” has reportedly been filed on behalf of Johnson on Sunday by a man named Kenton Tilford from West Virginia.
However, there has been no confirmation of any connection between Tilford and Johnson.
The Rock has played numerous characters in action movies and even portrayed Obama in a Saturday Night Live
skit standing in front of a podium labelled ‘The Rock Johnson 2020’.
But now it looks like the joke is turning into reality.
The rumour started back in June 2016 an opinion piece was published on The Washington Post
wrote an suggesting that Johnson could be a good candidate because of popularity and clean political record.
star himself had responded to the piece saying that it was “interesting” and “fun to read”. But it wasn’t his ambition at the time.
“I can’t deny that the thought of being governor, the thought of being president, is alluring. And beyond that, it would be an opportunity to make a real impact on people’s lives on a global scale. But there are a lot of other things I want to do first,” he said.
Now, things are beginning to look a lot clearer what his next goal is.
In an interview with GQ
earlier this year, Johnson said that running for presidency could be “a real possibility” and hinted on what his presidential style would be like:
“Personally, I feel that if I were president, poise would be important. Leadership would be important. Taking responsibility for everybody. [If I didn’t agree with someone] on something, I wouldn’t shut them out. I would actually include them.”
So far, the actor has yet to respond on the news regarding his campaign committee. But if it actually happens, the one thing we can’t wait to watch is definitely the presidential debate!
