We're not sure how we missed it before this, but possibly every woman and little girl's favourite doll growing up is getting her first live-action movie
As Barbie celebrates her 60th birthday this year, the feature film will actually be the first film from Mattel's new studio called Mattel Films.
Over the years, we have seen numerous movies starring Barbie's character but they're all animated and none of them has ever made it to the theatres.
So, this is going to be an exciting project between Mattel and Warner Bros. to bring her to the silver screen!
Now, you must be thinking who would be the best person to play Barbie in person?
It is none other than Australian actress Margot Robbie, popularly known for her roles in Suicide Squad
and I, Tonya
But not only will she be acting in the film, she will also be taking on the producing role representing her production company LuckyChap Entertainment!
"Over the brand’s almost 60 years, Barbie has empowered kids to imagine themselves in aspirational roles from a princess to president," Robbie said in a statement, as reported by The Independent
"I’m so honoured to take on this role and produce a film that I believe will have a tremendously positive impact on children and audiences worldwide."
Since the first Barbie doll went on sale in New York six decades ago, Mattel has sold more than one billion Barbie dolls.
That's plenty of dolls and a lot of happy little girls, and we can't wait to see how will this project pan out.
But while we wait, let's all take a moment to revisit this song:
