The 56th Golden Horse Award recently took place in Taipei and some of you must be curious about how #TeamMalaysia did during the ceremony dubbed as the ‘Chinese-language Oscars’.
The film ‘The Garden of Evening Mists’ (TGOEM) led the way by bagging nine nominations, but we ultimately took home the award for ‘Best Make Up & Costume Design’.
Nikki Gooley, Biby Chow, Penny Pei-ling Tsai and Nina Edwards made up the team responsible for the win.
Besides that award, we also managed to place second out of 150 films in the ‘Audience Choice’ category.
That's actually quite an accomplishment!
The top spot went to ‘Jojo Rabbit’, and ‘The Sun’ placed third.
'TGOEM' is based on the critically-acclaimed novel of the same name written by Malaysian Tan Twan Eng. It was adapted onto the big screen by Scottish BAFTA-winning screenwriter Richard Smith, and directed by award-winning Taiwanese director Tom Lin.
The film starring Malaysian actress Sinje Lee ('The Eye'), Japanese actor Hiroshi Abe ('After The Storm'), Taiwanese actress Sylvia Chang ('Love Education'), British actor David Oakes ('Cold Skin'), Julian Sands ('The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo') and Scottish actor John Hannah ('The Mummy') is set to meet Malaysian viewers in January 2020.
