On 8 March each year, women around the world gather to celebrate each other’s achievements and empower one another for International Women’s Day.
Some celebrate it outside with their girlfriends, others prefer staying in and reading their favourite female author’s book or watching a few flicks.
And if you choose to do the latter, we’ve got a few films starring badass femme fatale leads that’ll make you be proud to be a woman.
Here are eight upcoming female-led films in 2020 fit for any girl power celebration.
#1 ‘Birds of Prey’
The film starring Margot Robbie as the titular character Harley Quinn ensembles a team of badass woman from different backgrounds with one common goal: taking down the city’s villain, the Black Mask. Although the film came out in February, it’s still showing in cinemas. So, if you’re down for some kickass action scenes, this film is for you.

#2 ‘A Quiet Place 2’
People say less is more and that was the winning formula for ‘A Quiet Place’ when the film featured very minimal dialogues. Evelynn Abott and her little family is back once again in the second installation of the movie. Following the death of her husband, she now has to be the pillar of her family and continue their journey of survival into the unknown.

Back in the 90s, a whole generation learned about who Mulan was and what a badass warriror she is. The iconic scene where she cuts off her hair reminds embedded in our minds even until today. Plus, the soundtrack was a real banger. Now, a whole new generation will learn about Mulan but in a live-action adaptation. 'Mulan 2020's' trailer just oozes girl power and will have you at the edge of your seats. Can't wait to watch her bring honour to herself and her family!

#4 ‘Black Widow’
One of the OG members of the Avengers' long-overdue standalone movie is finally coming out soon. Scarlett Johansson is set to reprise her role as the Black Widow and this time, we get to see her backstory prior to joining the Avengers (No guys, she won't be resurrected from the dead after the events in 'Endgame'). And it turns out that there is more than one Black Widow *mindblown*.

#5 ‘Legally Blonde 3’
Being blonde and rocking an all-pink outfit in law school never looked better on anyone but Elle Woods. It has been 17 years since the last installment of 'Legally Blonde' hit theatres and fans have been wondering if there will ever be a 'Legally Blonde 3'. Well the answer is a definite yes and the movie will be coming out this year! However, details have been kept under wraps but what we do know is Reese Witherspoon is defintiely coming back to reprise her role and the film will be "full of awesome feminist ideas".

#6 ‘Wonder Woman 1984’
Wonder Woman is back and this time she's in the 80s - the era of electro music, cool neon lights, and shoulder pads. But all that won't matter because something cooler is in the second installation of 'Wonder Woman' - her new gold outfit and a new generation of Wonder Women. But what's even more intriguing is that Steve Trevor is back, breathing and very much alive but weirdly hasn't aged a day.

#7 ‘Jungle Cruise’
2020 may just be Emily Blunt's year because she'll once again be the lead star for an upcoming film - 'Jungle Cruise'. The film, adapted from one of the most popular rides in Disneyland will feature Blunt as an a**-kicking scientist alongside Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson in an adventurous quest to find the 'Tree of Life' which possess healing powers. We stan a smart, brave scientist who isn't afraid to venture out into the world to quench her thrist for knowledge and curiousity.

#8 ‘Raya and the Last Dragon’
Now this is a film that every Malaysian should watch. Why? Because this upcoming Disney animated film is actually written by our very own fellow Malaysian, Adele Lim
. The look and feel of the film is inspired by Southeast Asia, so for all we know, we could see a lot of Malaysian elements in the film! 'Raya and the Last Dragon' tells the tale of a warrior named Raya who goes on a journey to find the last dragon on Earth.
