Our local animation industry has improved leaps and bounds for the past few years and some of the animated films have even smashed blockbuster records and won numerous international accolades.
Among those films is the popular animated franchise, ‘BoBoiBoy’.
‘BoBoiBoy Movie 2’ (BBBM2) recently put Malaysia on the map once again after the film bagged not one, but two nominations at two different international film festivals.
The movie has been shortlisted as one of the finalists in the ‘Best Animation 3D Film’ category at the New York Animation Film Awards and also for ‘Best Animated Film’ at the Florence Film Awards, which is a monthly film festival.
The New York Animation Film Awards is set to take place on 1 July in New York while the latter’s award ceremony has yet to be announced since they have suspended all ceremonies since April.
News of the nominations was announced via Monsta Studio’s social media platforms.
‘BBBM2’ previously won the Best Poster and Best Trailer awards at the Laurus Film Festival in Russia earlier this year.
The animated flick made national history when it was released last year after raking in over RM29.5 million at the box office, making it the second highest-grossing animated film in Malaysia.
Congrats BoBoiBoy and all the best! Let’s hope the sequel will bring home both awards soon.
