By now, many of us have forgotten how many days it has been since the Movement Control Order (MCO) has forced us to remain at home. It's been so long, even introverts are beginning to show signs of boredom ( and that's saying something).
In case you're one of those who've forgotten how many days it has been, we're on Day 21 i.e. half way through the second phase of MCO.
The bad news is, there's another week to go. The bad-er news is, the MCO might be extended.
Decision will be made soon
However, we won't have to wait till 14 April to find out our fates. The government has promised to announce if there's going to be an extension on 10 April.
So far, the increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases have consistently been above 100 a day in the past few weeks, with 69 sporadic cases (i.e. cases where the source of infection is not found) reported.
Several areas have been placed under Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) and the number of red zones have also been increasing.
However, the government has put in place many measures to mitigate the situation and hopefully, it is working. We will know on 10 April!
What we can expect after 10 April
Even if MCO is lifted, don't get too happy and start planning your parties and large gatherings. The threat of COVID-19 will still be present until a vaccine is found, tested and approved, which is going to take a bit of time.
The government is also going to discuss a zone-based standard operating procedure (SOP) at a special cabinet meeting on 9 April, The Star reported.
Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri told the news portal that the discussion will include how to address issues affecting people's movement as well as business operations without messing up the efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
He said that the SOP will also look into post-MCO dealings of the pandemic.
The meeting, however, is not to decide on the possible extension of the MCO, so you'll have to wait for the announcement regarding that.
Let's keep our fingers crossed, expectations realistic and be prepared to continue social distancing even after MCO.
