Our food is better – miles better. We have rats in our hawker stalls.
The 'America first' rhetoric has been the backbone of U.S. President Donald Trump's campaign to victory and its isolationist ideals have not gone down well with other countries. But that hasn't stopped any of these countries to make fun of the idea, repeatedly, to great effect.
With that aim, a Dutch comedy show called Sunday with Lubach
or Zondag met Lubach (a Daily Show-esque
talk show in the Netherlands), decided to make a video introducing the President to their nation of Netherlands, in the hopes of getting on his good side. The result was this satirical stroke of genius:
This spawned a long-list of copy cats that poke fun at the President while poking fun at their own country. It wasn't long before the trend caught on in South East Asia and now we've got our own 'America First, "Insert Country Here" Second' video.
Made by newcomers on the YouTube scene here in Malaysia, Ping Banter
, the video has gained a lot of traction since appearing three days ago on 20th Feb. Go on, give it a click, and leave a comment.
If you're interested, Singapore mode a video too. Somehow only Malaysians poke fun at Singaporeans but it doesn't work the other way round. Maybe there's something to learn there.
