Operation Save Coffee: How Nespresso Rescues 'Lost' Coffee With Their New Initiative
If you can't live without coffee, here's some good news for you.

Through their new initiative, Nespresso has introduced three new seasonal blends: the new Amaha awe Uganda, the Tamuka mu Zimbabwe and the Esperanza de Colombia.

The three different blends have their own distinct taste and flavour:

THE NEW AMAHA awe UGANDA

‘Hope of Uganda’ in Lhukonzo, a local language in Uganda, is a single origin coffee that carries rare sandalwood notes and elegant florals with medium acidity and body. An intensity 8 espresso, AMAHA awe UGANDA grows in a unique terroir, where shade and nutrients provided by banana trees create a true Arabica dreamland. In a Latte Macchiato, the biscuit and discrete fruity notes come alive in a balanced and sweet cup.

TAMUKA mu ZIMBABWE

TAMUKA mu ZIMBABWE is bursting with complex fruitiness and zesty, bright acidity, with notes of cranberry to red berries, and currant to grape. It has a creamy, smooth texture when you add milk, making it an ideal coffee for a Latte Macchiato. It is balanced and round, and has sweet notes of caramel and toffee when mixed with milk.

ESPERANZA de COLOMBIA

ESPERANZA de COLOMBIA is a mild coffee that is very light in acidity. It’s beautifully balanced and rounded, and it has aromas of yellow fruits with a hint of a cereal note.

The initiative that made it all happen

The coffee blends were made possible through Nespresso's new initiative called 'Reviving Origins'.

First introduced in 2019, the goal of the initiative is really simple: restore the coffee production in regions or countries that are affected by adversities such as enviromental disaster, economic hardship and conflict by providing support in rebuilding sustainable livelihoods for farmers and their communities while preserving the future of some of the world’s rarest, most exquisite coffee beans.

The 'Reviving Origins' programme is an integral part of the Nespresso AAA Sustainable Quality™ Programme, the brand’s sustainable sourcing model in coffee producing countries.

As such, Nespresso is investing a total of CHF 10 million (RM50 million) in the programme over a period of five years (2019-2023).

“Coffee is the lifeblood of entire communities across the globe. In many regions, coffee farming is threatened for reasons such as climate change, conflict and a shifting global economy.

"Through the 'Reviving Origins' programme, Nespresso provides support to struggling coffee farming areas and helps breathe new life into local economies and, most importantly, communities in these regions,” said Guillaume Le Cunff, CEO of Nespresso.

Nespresso’s new AMAHA awe UGANDA, TAMUKA mu ZIMBABWE and ESPERANZA de COLOMBIA flavours are available at RM34 for a sleeve of 10 capsules, at The Gardens Mall, 1 Utama Shopping Mall, and online or the Nespresso mobile app, from June 2020 onwards.
