The COVID-19 outbreak has forced a large number of us to turn to online platforms for our shopping needs.
It's usually the delivery charges that are a killer, but now Malaysians may have another fee to fork out too.
The government is planning to impose a 0.02 per cent service charge for all online purchases soon.
Deputy Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin said that the charge might be as low as 20 sen for purchases of RM1,000 and below.
According to a report by Malaysiakini
, the minister said that they have yet to decide on the details pertaining to the charge.
He said that the matter was still being discussed at the ministry level at the moment.
Meanwhile, news of the new fee has not been received well by many netizens.
Most argue that the fee would also discourage online transactions at a time when the government should be encouraging it.
