Many Malaysians suffered recently due to the lack of water after Sungai Gong, Selangor was polluted by irresponsible parties.
Many also felt that it was high time that something serious be done to tackle the problem.
And finally, we have some hope.
Environment and Water Minister Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man announced that an elite environmental crime prevention unit comprising of personnel from several government agencies has been formed.
According to a report by New Straits Times, he said the aim of the unit was to come down hard on polluters.
The elite unit comprises of personnel from the Department of Environment, National Water Services Commission (Span), Biosafety Department and the police.
"The ministry views the issue of pollution seriously. This needs to be addressed in a holistic and proactive approach.
"This was following the rampant pollution cases in Malaysia, with the latest incident at Sungai Gong, Selangor, which left a huge impact on the nation's environment sustainability, country's economy, as well as the health and wellbeing of the people," he said.
Hopefully, with this initiative, no one will dare to pollute our rivers again.
