A new study by Australia's national science agency found that the coronavirus can survive on things like banknotes and phones for up to 28 days.
This is especially true when the conditions are cool and dark.
According to a report in AFP, the researchers at CSIRO's disease preparedness centre discovered that at 20 degrees Celsius, SARS-CoV-2 was "extremely robust" on smooth surfaces like mobile phone screens, glass, steel and plastic banknotes.
The study showed that the virus could survive for at least 28 days in those conditions.
Longer survival times
Meanwhile, at 30 and 40 degrees Celsius, the rate is seven days and 24 hours respectively.
The study also found that on porous surfaces like cotton, it could survive for 14 days to 16 days, depending on temperatures.
This period is definitely longer than the ones suggested before.
Can someone just find a cure for this already?
