Go and kick the coronavirus' butt, Doc!

Despite the rising COVID-19 cases in the country, let us not forget the fact that Malaysia is still one of the best in the world when it comes to battling the coronavirus.

And this piece of news would further prove that.

An honourable task

Malaysian virologist Emeritus Prof Datuk Dr Lam Sai Kit has been selected to be part of a 12-member international taskforce that will investigate, among others, the origins of the coronavirus and how it got out of control.

According to a report by The Star Online, the taskforce, which is also part of The Lancet's COVID-19 Commission, will be led by Dr Peter Daszak, a disease ecologist who has studied the coronavirus transmission in China and South-East Asia.

The report added that the taskforce’s members are from a diverse set of scientific disciplines and backgrounds, with expertise in outbreak investigation, lab biosecurity, virology and disease ecology.

Dr Lam played a crucial role in the discovery of the Nipah virus, so we reckon he will fit in really well in the team.

Well-equipped to tackle the pandemic.
Dr Lam told the news portal that the taskforce has been given a period of 12 months to review all available information about the pandemic.

"It is timely to form the commission as we now have more comprehensive data and materials to work with. This allows the commission to provide a 'state-of-the art' assessment and offer governments, civil society, and United Nations institutions practical solutions and recommendations in response to the COVID-19 pandemic," he was quoted as saying.

Now that a superteam has been assembled, let's kick the pandemic's ass!
