If you've been hearing about the latest exclusive social media platform 'Clubhouse' but don't really know what it is, you're not alone.
The app is fairly new, is only available to iOS users for now and even then only for those invited by existing users.
Pretty exclusive but what even is 'Clubhouse'? Let us explain.
Like a podcast but live
'Clubhouse' is basically an invite-only social network where people can host talks (sort of) and you can listen in to the sessions or participate in it.
describes it as "Part talkback radio, part conference call, part Houseparty...".
It's audio-only and when you get invited to join, you will be asked your interest - business, books, tech, etc. - and the app will recommend rooms and people to follow.
Unlike most other apps or podcasts, whatever happens in the room stays in the room as it won't be available once a session ends.
At least, that's the idea.
"Our goal was to build a social experience that felt more human—where instead of posting, you could gather with other people and talk.
"Our north star was to create something where you could close the app at the end of the session feeling better than you did when you opened it, because you had deepened friendships, met new people and learned," the app creators wrote in their blog
According to Techcrunch
, which covered one of Elon Musk's talk on the app, one session has a limit of 5,000 people.
Although the session was by invite only, it was streamed on YouTube and other channels so we're not sure how much of what happens on the app remains exclusive or how long.
How to join?
Here's the bad news: you can't just download the app, unfortunately.
An existing member will have to invite you, and even then, they can only invite a maximum of two people.
But despair not as the app is only at its Beta stage and is expected to be opened to the whole world soon enough.
If you know anyone already on the app, you can get them to invite you or join in the waitlist here.
