Although we expected this to happen, it's still a bit shocking when it's officially announced.
In a bid to kill the virus, the government has decided to call for a total lockdown.
Country in lockdown
The country will be placed under a total lockdown starting 1 June.
The announcement was made in a press statement released by the Prime Minister's Office on Friday (28 May) evening.
The first phase of the total lockdown will take effect until 14 June, the statement said.
This time around, all sectors except for the economic and service sector listed by the National Security Council (NSC) will not be allowed to operate.
The decision came after Malaysia recorded 8,290 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, the all-time record.
Let's all stay at home and help flatten the curve, fellow Malaysians! We can do this.
