Did This One Woman Con The World Into Believing That She Gave Birth To 10 Babies?

That is fake

Remember the South African woman who claimed to have given birth to 10 babies a few weeks ago? It turns out she might have been lying about it.

Gosiame Sithole, 37, made headlines when she shared that she delivered seven boys and three girls — five via vaginal birth and five caesarean section.

The world looked at the picture of her "pregnant" self with scepticism but accepted the story as one of the many unexplainable natural occurrences.

Authorities say she was lying

Bernama reported that Gauteng provincial government, which includes the cities of Johannesburg and Pretoria, investigated the matter when local news channel Pretoria News reported the claims, which BBC then picked up.

“None of the hospitals in the province – both private and public -- had any records of such births at their facility,” a statement by the government said.

Sithole's "miracle babies" would have made it to Guinness World Record displacing a a Malian woman who gave birth to nonuplets in Morocco this year.

Questions arose when mother and children remained unseen

The happy couple

People started questioning the veracity of Sithole’s claims when neither she nor the babies made an appearance after the alleged births.

In fact, her boyfriend Tebogo Tsotetsi’s family released a statement saying he has not seen his girlfriend or the babies.

He added that he only got the information from his girlfriend.

Tsotetsi claimed that he tried several times to visit Sithole and the babies, but she refused to divulge their whereabouts.

“The family has resolved and concluded that there are no decuplets born between Tebogo Tsotetsi and Gosiame Sithole, until proven otherwise,” the statement said.

This in itself is weird because there were pictures of Tsotetsi and a “pregnant” girlfriend in the original report.

Wouldn’t he, at some point, figure out that her pregnancy was fake?

Never pregnant

According to the report, the provincial government said its social development department social workers eventually arranged an appointment at Tembisa Hospital near Johannesburg to observe both baby and mother on June 18 for fear of their safety.

The hospital, however, found that Sithole had not been pregnant in recent times, let alone given birth to any children.

According to The New York Post, she is now held at the psychiatric ward of the hospital, although it is being done against her will.

The whole thing is super dodgy, but apparently, the local media that broke the story is standing by its report.

They are also facing a lawsuit from the local government.

Good luck to them!
