We've all been there; there are days where you lack the motivation to wake up and go to work.
Despite feeling like that, many of us still dress up and show up.
However, in Indonesia, there are those who are going to the extreme just to get a day or two off from work.
Making a quick buck
According to a report by Mashable SEA
quoting Indonesian site detiknews
, many Indonesians are caught buying fake positive COVID-19 test results just so that they could skip work.
Jakarta Metro Police spokesperson Yusri Yunu told detiknews
that it is a rising trend in the country, and the authorities have reportedly arrested four people suspected of selling these forged documents.
Yusri said the culprits mainly sell the fake reports via social media websites.
"This is even more strange. So people aren’t just asking for negative results, they’re also ordering positive results.
"Usually those who ask for positive swab results are people who don't want to work. It could be because they don't want to work in the office, and so having a positive Covid-19 test result would excuse them from their duties," he was quoted as saying.
According to Yusri, one can obtain a copy of the fake test result for as cheap as IDR170,000 (RM49).
As for the four suspects, they are facing up to six years in prison if they are found guilty.
With Indonesia being the worst-hit nation in Southeast Asia -- they recorded 54,517 cases and 991 deaths last Wednesday (14 July) -- it's no wonder opportunists are taking the opportunity to make a few quick bucks.
