It was a historical Wednesday for Malaysians as we have bagged our first ever gold medal in this year’s edition of the SEA Games.

Our national chinlone squad took home the goal medal after their outstanding feat against the Philippines during the men’s final linking event.

We beat the Filipinos in two straight sets with the points of 197-133 and 194-138. Our Malaysian lads accumulated 391 points whereby their rival managed to only rake up 271 points.

This was the first time Team Malaysia participated in the event since it was introduced back at the 2013 SEA Games. This is also our first gold medal ever in this sporting event.

What is chinlone?

Chinlone is a traditional sport originating from Myanmar.

The game is played by six players in each team using a rattan ball, the same one used in sepak takraw.

Such a unique and fascinating game!
Players will have to juggle the ball using their feet, knees, and their heads as they walk around a circle. They would need to pass the ball between each other within a circle without letting the ball hit the ground.

Congratulations, guys! We’re so proud of you. Here’s to many more wins, this year!
