According to The Star Online, Shalini works in an Australian publishing house called Text Publishing Co where she, together with her colleagues, created a mentorship programme to discover and develop the work of emerging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander writers in the country.

She told the news portal that it's her goal to improve the diversity of the books her publishing house offers, and at the same time, provide support to indigenous people.

Well done, Shalini! You totally deserve the award.
