After establishing the Tabung Harapan Malaysian (THM)
on Wednesday, the Ministry of Finance announced that the fund collected a total of RM7 million within 24 hours
Contrary to some unpopular opinion, this fund wasn't set up out of desperation, out of the blue or as a last resort to solve our nation's RM1 trillion debt.
It was an effort sparked by many Malaysians who had expressed their desire to help reduce the national debt and started crowdsourcing for funds. So the government decided to provide a proper channel for the public to help out.
According to The Star
, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng likened the THM to South Korea in the latest 1990s when Koreans came together to donate gold items to the government to settle their debts during the Asian financial crisis.
So in light of this patriotic spirit that Malaysians have been demonstrating this season, Malindo Air has also decided to contribute as an organisation.
The airline will be contributing RM1 from every Malaysia based ticket sale
towards the THM fund starting from today until 31 August 2018
"We believe it is our responsibility to play a part in strengthening the nation's economic condition. The Malindo family has strong faith that, if we the citizens act together as one in aiding the new government, Malaysia will be back to its glorious days in no time," Malindo Air Chief Executive Officer Chandran Rama Muthy said in a statement.
This three-month campaign will also serve as the company's gift to the nation in conjunction with the first Merdeka Day under Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad's leadership after 15 years.
So if you're still considering whether or not to contribute to the THM, maybe your flight ticket back home this Raya can help!
The Finance Ministry will also be updating the official website
with the latest amount at 2pm every day
