Popular Siam Road Char Koay Teow Is Permanently Closed. Here’s Why
Char koay teow lovers, particularly on the island of Penang, we’ve got some really sad news for you.

If one of the main reasons you’ve been travelling to the Pearl of the Orient is so that you could fill up your tummy with a plate of savoury char koay teow at Siam Road, well, you can kiss your plans of visiting the uncle’s stall soon goodbye.

The Star reported that uncle Tan Chooi Hong, 77, who cooks the noodles daily with his son, Kean Huat, 53, has hanged up their wok for good.

How many times have you guys been here before?
Apparently, the uncle has retired from selling his super yummy char kuay teow.

The news was further confirmed by the owner of the kopitiam shop located opposite of the stall. The kopitiam owner said that it has been about four months or so since they last operated.

“So many of his customers came in the first two months after he stopped. When I told them the char koay teow was no more, they left looking crestfallen,” the kopitiam owner told The Star.

The dedication it takes for a plate of char koay teow.
The Siam Road Char Koay Teow has been highly sought after by locals and tourists alike. The stall is so famous, patrons are willing to line up for an arduous amount of time just so that they could have a bite of one of the best char koay teow in Penang.

However, don’t lose hope yet fans, as according to the kopitiam owner, there might be a possibility that his son will continue his business using the same recipe one day.

However, no one knows for sure where his next stall will be at as he has confirmed that he will not operate on Siam Road.

So guys, it seems like we have to move on to other equally good char koay teow around Penang for now.
