Good news for the ladies, not so good news for the gents.
You remember that famous Beyoncé song "Who Run The World
"? The answer is actually 'boys'.
Well, if you're in Malaysia, that is.
The Department of Statistics revealed on Wednesday that the male population in Malaysia now outnumbers the female population - by a pretty huge margin, actually!
Currently, there are 16.7 million
guys in Malaysia, and the female population stands at 15.7 million
What this means that all you single ladies out there have an extra one million guys to choose from.
(Or it could also mean that you have to kiss more frogs to find your Prince Charming)
Malaysia's chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin said in a statement cited by The New Straits Times
that the findings were based on the Current Population Estimates Malaysia 2018 survey and data from the 2010 Population and Housing Census.
According to Dr Mohd Uzir, the sex ratio remains at 107 males per 100 females.
Oh, here's another piece of good news for you ladies: a majority of these guys are in the working adult age group.
Dr Mohd Uzir said that 69.7 per cent
of the population are aged between 15 and 64, an increase from 69.6 per cent in 2017.
The median age now stands at 28.6 years, also an increase from 2017.
In case you're wondering, the current sex ratio for the entire world population is 101 males to 100 females.
Either way, your song is #fakenews, Beyoncé!
