Sorry, kids. We've got some bad news for you.

If you're 17 years old and below, you may soon experience restricted internet access after midnight.

The government is planning to limit internet access for kids under 17 between 12am and 6am.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.
This is a move taken after Japan and South Korea to control video game and social media addiction among teenagers in Malaysia.

“There are also gaming providers that prevent users aged under 17 from accessing games after one to two hours,” Deputy Health Minister Dr Lee Boon Chye said, as reported by Bernama.

This form of addiction could lead to more severe issues, like avoiding other activities such as education and career, as it could turn into a distracting habit.

Unless you're building a career in eSports.
Dr Lee mentioned a survey conducted by the National Health and Morbidity in 2017 that showed up tp 34.9 per cent of Malaysian teenagers aged 13 to 17 were addicted to the internet.

Another survey done by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on internet usage pattern last year observed that there were 24.1mil internet users in Malaysia. Up to 80 per cent of them had access to social media with an average usage of more than four hours a day.

You know, you can do a lot of things in four hours. Multiply that by 365 days a year, imagine how much you could accomplish within that time!

As for teenagers, think about the amount of studying you could finish within those few hours!

Honestly, we have nothing against the internet and social media. Heck, the fact that you're reading this proves that Rojak Daily also depends heavily on the digital world!

But, as always, everything in moderation, eh?
