Boys, there are literally too many of you.
In a world pushing for gender equality, the one thing we probably won't ever be equal is in terms of population.
Last year, the population of Malaysia increased by 1.1 per cent to 32.6 million
, compared to the 32.2 million in the final quater of 2017, according to the Department of Statistics Malaysia.
Here's where it gets a bit more interesting.
Out of the total Malaysian population, Bernama
reported that 16.8 million are male and 15.8 million are female.
That's a million more boys than girls
in the country!
In fact, based on last year's records, 65,800 male babies were born and 61,600 female.
However, there was a 2.5 per cent drop in birth rates last year
, which saw 127,400 live births. This number may not be nearing an alarming rate for now, but the decrease could be significant in a few years' time.
It was also reported that Selangor maintains the most populous state in Malaysia with 6.5 million people, while the Federal Territory of Putrajaya is the least with 91,900.
So if you Selangor people out there are feeling a little suffocated in your area, you know where to go.
