Malaysia has seen its fair share of weird names.
Who can forget ‘Betik bin Kobis’, ‘Valentino Power Rangers Anak Biju’ and last year’s case where a father named his two kids, ‘Muhammad Dhury Yan’ and ‘Nur Rambutt'an’?
While our country has guidelines in place to restrict naming people with offensive or unappealing names, which has effectively slowed down such names, Indonesia continues to grow its list of strange names.
Some of them include 'Asian Games', 'Selamat Hari Natal', 'Andi Go To School' and 'Alhamdulillah Lanang Anakku'.
In the latest incident, an Indonesian couple from Bekasi Regency in West Java decided to name their newborn son, ‘Google’
Yup! Little Google was born last year on 30 November to Andi Cahya Saputra and Ella Karina.
According to a report by Malay Mail
, Andi told Indonesian news portal Kumparan
that he considered Microsoft, iPhone, iOS, Windows as possible names for his son.
“From religion, we considered the names of the prophet, and from the more usual names, we also considered Albar Dirgantara Putra,” he said.
“But when he was finally born, something in my heart told me the name Albar Dirgantara Putra wouldn’t suit him. At last, I took a name from the technology category,” he said.
Even though Andi drew flak from many, including his own wife and father who asked him to add a second name, he refused to budge because he believed it would alter the essence of the name.
Andi hopes that Google can help many people and become useful to others in the future.
Well, little Google, we can't wait to see you grow up!
