It seems like this Merdeka month, Malaysians around the world are doing everything they can do make the country proud.
The latest to do that is the Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band, who defied the odds to become world champions.
The Sikh pipe band -- the one and only in Southeast Asia, in fact -- finished first overall at the 2019 World Pipe Band Championship held in Scotland on 16 and 17 August.
The Sri Dashmesh Pipe band also finished first in the Drumming category, as well as taking home the prize for Best Parade.
The band broke the good news on their official Facebook page on Sunday:
The World Pipe Band Championship, or better known as the 'The Worlds', is considered by many as the Olympics of piping.
More than 230 bands from 16 nations took part in the championship this year, so to finish first in the competition was a historic feat indeed.
The 40-strong Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band, which was founded in 1988, made history by becoming the first ever pipe band from Malaysia to make it to the The Worlds in Scotland.
They also made history by becoming the first Sikh pipe band to ever compete in the World Pipe Band Championship since its inception in 1930.
And of course, they made history by winning the entire thing!
Well done, Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band! We are extremely proud of you.
