Boys and girls, we may have an emerging sports star among us.
A Malaysian teenager is set to become the first ever under-18 professional footballer in the Belgian League, which is ranked the tenth best league in Europe by the Union of European Football Associations (Uefa).
reported that Belgium club KV Kortrjik has agreed to sign 17-year-old Luqman Hakim Shamsuddin
on a five-year deal.
The news portal reported that the Kelantan-born lad, a product of Ministry of Youths and Sports’ own National Football Development Programme (NFDP), will start training with Cardiff City FC in the United Kingdom next year, before officially signing a contract when he turns 18 next March.
(Malaysian tycoon Vincent Tan owns both Cardiff City FC and KV Kortrjik, in case you're wondering)
While we are all excited over the news, it seems like the Belgian football club is more excited than us, judging by this pretty hilarious tweet:
Malaysians, naturally, had a field day replying to the tweet:
Congratulations, Luqman! Go out there and make us proud, yeah?
