Shopping does drive people nuts.

By now, you guys should know how big of a deal the recently concluded 11.11 sales are.

The discounts were big and the prices of the items were low, so naturally, shoppers will go all out out to empty their bank accounts.

However, while the sales brought happiness to some shoppers, it could also be a deal breaker for others.

Like this man in China, for example: when he found out that his wife has spent more than RMB300,000 (RM170,000) during the 11.11 sales, he got so distraught, he reportedly decided to end his own life.

Shop 'til you drop

The man couldn't take it anymore.
According to a report by Red Star News, quoted by Mothership SG, the incident happened on Sunday (10 November) in Luzhou, Sichuan.

The 29-year-old man only known as Wang reportedly got into an argument with his wife Zhan upon learning of her lavish online shopping spree.

Wang, who works as a sales rep and only earns less than RM3,000 per month, then went to the rooftop of his 33-storey apartment building and contemplated  jumping down to kill himself.

It took a lot of convincing for him to come down.Things got so bad that the police were reportedly called to the scene to diffuse the situation.

After talking to the man for half an hour, they managed to calm the extremely distressed Wang by convincing him to think about his young child before making any silly decisions.

However, he was still stressed out when he reached home, and the police had to call both the couple’s parents to their house.

Confessions of a shopaholic

After Wang gathered his thoughts and finally calmed down, he told the police that he would work hard to pay off the debt his wife had accumulated.

The police later found that this is not the first time Zhan spent so much while online shopping.

She reportedly once spent RMB200,000 (RM118,400) buying luxury clothes, bags and perfume online.

The man eventually said he'll pay off the debt.
According to the report, Zhan, who's currently not working after leaving her job at a property firm last year when she got pregnant, funded her shopping spree with personal loans and multiple credit cards.

It was reported that she still has debt to pay off despite frequently selling off the things that she bought.

Guys, let this be a reminder to always spend within your means!
