So, How Long Will This Cold Season Last? The Met Dept Has The Answer!
Been feeling a little chilly lately?

No, it’s not in your head because temperatures across the Klang Valley have generally been quite low these past couple of weeks.

For us living in a tropical country, we're not so used to cold weather.

But here's some good news: it's here to stay for a while.

Monsoon winds

Bernama reported that temperatures in certain areas in the country dipped to as low as 22°C, the lowest in months as the country.

The reason for that is due to the northeast monsoon season, commonly known as the winter monsoon.

Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) director-general Jailan Simon told the news agency that this is actually a common phenomenon in Malaysia.

According to Jailan, the monsoon winds, which formed over the Siberian-Mongolian region, flow through northern China across the South China Sea and the peninsula.

“Overcast skies and continuous rain are common during this period where the peninsula is concerned. It causes the temperature to drop and results in a higher humidity which can lead to mists forming,” he was quoted as saying.

He added that the cold and rainy season would be here for a while, until early February at least.

So, boys and girls, enjoy the cool weather as much as you can before we are hit with sunny days again.
