Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid and her husband, Datuk Saiful Nizam Mohd Yusoff, were fined RM800 each for flounting the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Nurulidayah, who is the daughter of UMNO president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and her husband pleaded guilty to the charge, Astro Awani reported.
They were charged under Rule 3(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures Within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020, which carries a maximum fine of RM1,000 or up to six months jail or both.
The duo were found guilty of leaving their house in Jalan Bayu Nyaman, Country Heights in Kajang to meet with government officials in Putrajaya on 20 April.
Nurulhidayah posted a picture of her and her husband meeting Minister at the Prime Minister's office Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri and Environment and Water deputy minister Datuk Ahmad Masrizal Muhammad in their offices during Phase 3 of the MCO when they were supposed to be staying at home.
Netizens were not happy with their action as they violated the restrictions imposed at that time which included travelling beyond 10 kilometres from their homes.
Netizens react to the fine
Despite the charge and fine, netizens are still unhappy that Nurulhidayah and husband got away with less than the maximum fine.
Netizens were also unhappy that reporters were barred from entering the court room when the hearing was going on, as it was supposed to be a public hearing.
Let this be a lesson to stay home and to not go out unless you have a valid reason, yeah?
